Part 2
He had already crossed the great river without
having yet made a decision. There were many conflicting factors. He
could choose to leave with his new identity and build a new life
away from any other emotional implication. His soul was in harmony
without any problem. Changing was an obvious decision.
But something in his mind was pushing him to
return to his country. The same reason why a few days earlier he had
made the decision not to flee to America with the others by getting
in that truck. He was not a criminal and a murderer and now, with
the permission of his friend Von Maier, he could show evidence of
his innocence. His fellow citizens would have been glad to know the
truth. He had saved twenty lives.
Yet he felt a certain fear in his soul as he
came back, something could have gone wrong. Maybe they would have
thought it was a ruse, a series of artfully constructed evidence to
save his live.
When the hills appeared on the horizon, he
understood he had to make a decision at that moment: continue
towards the plain, descend towards the sea or climb the hills to
return to his own country.
