Part 2
Spring had begun when Milly came to the hill.
She got out of the car and, without entering the house, sat in the
courtyard in front of the terrace. She had a different attitude than
usual, her face was worried and tense. She waited for the arrival of
Jonas, holding the door handle in her hand.
The man approached. “It’s not your custom to come here without
entering.”
Milly nodded without answering.
“It must be something very important!” commented Jonas.
“The situation has become very complicated” whispered Milly.
“Are there any problems in the organization?” asked Jonas.
Milly shook her head.
“Maybe a public figure to meet?”
She shook her head again.
“Damn it, Milly, what’s going on?”
The girl looked around to see the blossoming, then turned to him.
“How beautiful is spring, isn’t it?”
Jonas did not answer.
“Look at the mountains as they are reborn to the season’s
invitation. See how happy primroses are to start living.”
Jonas had the chills. He had never seen her in that condition. He
had faced problems impossible for any other person. When he saw her
concern, he could not imagine the reason.
Milly stood for a moment with her head bent before raising it,
always keeping her face tense. “You have to go to the USA, I have to
come with you. A private plane is waiting for us at a military
airstrip not far from here.”
Jonas had the chills. “The military? What does our work have to do
with the armed forces?”
“It’s an emergency” she replied. “The government itself has
requested your presence and sent a plane to pick us up.”
“A national emergency?” asked Jonas, astonished. “I don’t
understand!”
Milly looked at him with a smile. “I will explain everything when we
are on board.”
