Part 2
On a cool summer morning, a good-looking girl
came among the misfits. She looked at them for a long time, studying
their face and then she kept asking one of them if he wanted a job
for a week. The man rubbed his eyes and asked her what kind of
occupation it was.
“You don’t have to accomplish anything particularly complicated. We
are shooting a movie in the suburbs, we need a person with your
homeless’ characteristic” took out some money and showed it. “You
can get some money now, and the rest will be delivered in the end.”
“This agreement includes also food and accommodation?” asked the
misfit, enjoying a week’s earnings without any effort.
The girl nodded with a smile. “For a whole week!” she confirmed.
The man stood up, grabbing the notes and followed her into the side
streets.
The other homeless people were mortified for not being chosen. They
thought how lucky their friend had been.
At the end of the week they waited impatiently for his return to
learn how the work had been done and whether the same opportunity
was also provided for someone else. But there was no news of him
until, on another afternoon, the same girl returned among them with
the same analysis attitude of the people sitting on the sidewalk. At
the end, she chose another and offered him the same opportunity.
Before the chosen one stood up to follow her, Jonas addressed her
with perplexity “Our friend has been taken away for more than ten
days, why hasn’t he returned yet?
The girl seemed surprised by such a question, smiled as she
approached. “Your friend got the deal for another week.”
Though unconvinced by her answer, Jonah nodded. The new chosen one
instead grabbed the money offered and followed without hesitation.
