Part 2
The lake was surrounded by high mountains as
guardians of its beauty; they slowly degraded until they died
accompanying its long journey towards the plain. With generosity, it
entrusted its water to the river, with the task of leading it
towards the sea.
Many towns, slightly offended by a discreet
and unobtrusive traffic, surrounded the lake by leaning on its
banks. Halfway up the hill, the main road, between tunnels and
viaducts, protected it from the intense flow of cars and trucks. At
the entrance to the tunnels, the smoke produced by the traffic,
seemed to show a large amount of products thrown inside like an
oven.
The sun, leaning on the mountain, drew a long
trail of light on which sports boats, small fishing boats and
ferries competed for possession, sometimes touching each other.
In the small park next to the boarding,
silence was wounded only by the transit of some trucks accidentally
escaped from the high road. At their passage, a cloud of dust and
scraps stolen from the roadside, followed their wheels for most of
the way until they settled on the same pavement not far away.
In front of the small pier where the ferry
made the usual stop in the constant race between the island and the
coast, Marì was absorbed, looking around. With his head lowered, at
constant intervals, he emitted long sighs without being able to hide
a deep sadness. The beauty of the territory flowed before his eyes
without being considered.
In contrast to his state of mind, a young
couple, leaning on the other side of the protections, next to each
other, at almost constant intervals, smiled and exchanged a kiss.
