Part 2
They came to a small town where Cloudy, after
thanking, went down looking around. In addition to the main road,
lined with various commercial activities, there were small hotels
all named after a waterfall located somewhere in the hills even if
she could not imagine how a stream could spring from such an arid
landscape.
She was standing in what could be considered
the center, in front of the only traffic light to control the
intersection with two other roads without any indication.
Before deciding which of the two hotels to go
to, to relieve a terrible thirst, she felt the need to drink
anything, as long as it was in a large glass.
She entered a saloon that seemed to come from
the past times. Customers were leaning against the counter while a
small television, the only imperfection to its dated feature, showed
a football game. The gathered men shouted and raised their arms at
every play. Cloudy sat down after asking for a beer.
The sheriff looked at her doubtlessly,
approaching after taking off his hat.
“You’re not from here, are you?”
Cloudy nodded with a smile. “I’m on the road.”
“I understand!” he replied uncertainly. “Where
are you headed if I can ask?”
Cloudy could not meet his request as she had
no idea about what direction to take the next day. She stretched her
arm out in the direction of the main road.
The sheriff frowned, not at all satisfied with
her answer. “Can you show me your papers?”
Cloudy nodded, pulling it out and offering
him.
The sheriff at the sight blushed. He warned
Cloudy not to move as he returned to his deputy showing them. The
man nodded, looking at the girl, then drew his gun and pointed it in
her direction, telling her to get up and put her hands behind her
back.
Cloudy blushed thinking of a joke and did not
obey the man who, in a rush, took her hands putting them behind and
forcing her to kneel.
“What’s going on?” asked Cloudy, surprised, in
an attempt to resist the grip.
“Stay still and let yourself be handcuffed!”
the sheriff told while the deputy kept his gun pointed at her.
“You have a terrible nerve coming back here to
town!” commented the sheriff as they left the saloon for the office.
“I have never been to this city before!”
objected Cloudy.
“Now follow us, we will keep you in custody
until the arrival of the judge. He will decide your fate” ordered
the sheriff dragging Cloudy on the sidewalk.
People had moved across the street, stopping
to comment on the arrest and pointing their arms at her.
