Part 2
Cloudy was led to the sheriff’s office in
handcuffs, and her cell was opened where another girl sat on the
cot.
“You will be company while I sit down to find
the judge” declared the sheriff.
“You have good hunted today!” exclaimed,
laughing the girl sitting on the cell bed.
The sheriff raised his arms without answering.
He left the office and drove to the outskirts.
“What have you done so bad that you are locked
in here?” asked the girl.
“It’s not the first time” replied Cloudy,
sitting next to her. “Mine is a case of homonymy. There is a
criminal in a prison for theft and I don’t know what other crime.
Every time I check my documents, they lock me up. I only hope that
they can quickly check the error.”
The other girl burst out laughing. “You’re
more unlucky than I am. You should attach a note on your back with
the words: “I am not the criminal of my documents!””
Cloudy laughed as she looked at the girl who,
although locked up, seemed comfortable as if she were in her second
home. “How come you ended up in here?”
“Every time something different happens in the
city, the sheriff locks me up to show the citizens how justice is
working properly”, she replied lying down. “I had organized a
demonstration in favor of some fast-food workers at a shopping
center on the edge of town but the director must have called him; so
without even trying to convince the demonstrators to leave, he
simply picked me up and brought me here.”
Cloudy watched the girl carefully. There was
something special about her that stimulated her memory. Only after a
careful analysis she discovered the reason in reference to her night
vision on the fate of the Earth, in the newspaper article reported
on the front page. The girl was arrested for a demonstration in
which, after a fight, the restaurant manager was killed. Accused of
murder, at the end of the trial, she was taken away to prison to
serve her sentence. She also remembered her name.
