Pawny crossed the border without looking back.
On the other side, she was immediately surrounded by the usual
noises and confusion to which she was no longer accustomed. She felt
like she’d been away for years.
In the sheltered house there was a lot of excitement. Controls had been increased. Before arriving at the office she met Kimberly. At the sight of the girl her face darkened. She looked around and dragged her to another office.
“What did you do on the other side of the wall?” asked the woman with the dark face. “One of our agents sent us a file on your account addressed to all Soviet agents. Our leaders are wondering why the enemy is so hard on you.” She grabbed the girl by the arm and pushed her near the door. “For now get out. We’ll meet tonight in the usual pub. In the meantime, I’ll try to get all the information.”
